Pitt hires linebackers coach
Pitt coach Dave Wannstedt hired one of his former players, Bernard Clark, to fill the job of the Panthers linebackers coach. Clark comes to the Panthers from Hampton University where he was serving as the defensive coordinator.Clark, 43, was one of four candidates who interviewed for the position but one of the things that put over the top is his recruiting ties in Florida. Prior to his time at Hampton, he spent two seasons as a defensive assistant at Florida International, one season as the defensive line coach at South Florida and overall, he has 13 seasons experience as a ...
LiveBlog: RMU-Pitt
Last week Deadspin had a bit about trademarks and they brought up how Robert Morris likes to go as “Bobby Mo” at times. Yet the university does not own the trademark. Honestly, I never knew they went by that. You would think in the storied rivalry that is Pitt-Robert Morris, I would know these things.Liveblog in a couple hours. As usual, right below, or you can break it out by Clicking Here.RobbyMo-Pitt
The Big East's best: No. 18, Lawrence Wilson
A postseason ranking of the Big East's Top 30 players ...
Wilson No. 18
Lawrence Wilson, LB, Connecticut, Jr.
Preseason rank: NR
Why him here: In the preseason, it was Wilson's teammate and fellow UConn linebacker Scott Lutrus who made the top 30 list. While Lutrus remains an excellent player, his 2009 season was sidetracked by injuries.
Wilson took up the slack in Lutrus' absence, and in a big way. He led the ...

Newcomers to watch in the Big East this spring
If the 2009 Big East season taught us anything, it was that newcomers can have a big impact.
From offensive player of the year Dion Lewis to Tom Savage and Mohamed Sanu to Jason Pierre-Paul to Greg Paulus , new faces were having an impact all over the league. So which newcomers to the Big East should we be keeping an eye on this spring? Here are a few candidates:
Vidal Hazelton , WR, Cincinnati: The USC transfer becomes eligible this season and could become ...
Stache-less LB Coach
I am concerned that Pitt is slacking off on its ’stache quotient in the coaching staff. The departure of Tumpkin meant Pitt lost a fine pencil-thin stache. Hiring Scott Turner didn’t change things. Now Pitt went and hired another stache-less guy.2010 will be [Bernard] Clark’s 13th season coaching college football. He most recently served as the defensive coordinator for Hampton University in 2009. Prior to last season, he was a defensive assistant Florida International in 2007 and 2008.2006 saw Clark coach the defensive line at South Florida, and he spent 2004 and 2005 as the defensive coordinator at FIU. He ...
BIG EAST NEWS & NOTES (2/8/2010)
Leave a Comment *********Follow NBE Sports on Twitter: http://twitter.com/NBESports*****A busy and snowy weekend in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic is over and the basketball action of Rivalry Week will likely help thaw things out. Before the week got started, there were a pair of Big East match-ups on Super Bowl Sunday and Notre Dame cooled off the red hot USF Bulls and Syracuse laid claim to the top spot in the conference by winning at Cincinnati.Tonight is a big one as West Virginia welcomes in Villanova for a BIG Monday match-up. Pittsburgh is also in action taking on a ...
Late Time for Robert Morris
Usually a late-January or February non-con game takes place because ESPN or CBS wants to carry it. Pitt has had a couple of these in recent years. This year it is Robert Morris. Not sure if this is some sort of placeholder or to replace something that fell through. Whatever the reason, RMU Coach Mike Rice says he won’t do it again. Either schedule in November or December to get all the major conference beatings out of the way at once or not at all.Robert Morris is on top of the NEC with an 11-1 record and boasts a 9 ...
The Big East's best: No. 19, Tom Savage
A postseason ranking of the Big East's top 30 players ...
No. 19
Tom Savage , QB, Rutgers
Savage Preseason rank: NR
Why him here: We may have taken for advantage just how good Savage's 2009 season was.
Here was a guy who arrived on campus in the summer as a true freshman and basically claimed the starting quarterback job by the second half of the opening game against Cincinnati. Rutgers ...
Top 6 Schools Recruiting Mount Vernon’s Hinds
From Detroit Pistons guard Ben Gordon to Rutgers players Jonathan Mitchell and Mike Coburn to West Virginia sophomore Kevin Jones, Mount Vernon High School coach Bob Cimmino has turned out one star after another. The next in that line is junior point guard Jabarie Hinds. The 6-foot, 166-pound Hinds is ranked No. 18 among point guards in the Class of 2011 and No. 77 overall. He’s averaging 25 points, 4.5 assists, 4 rebounds and 3 steals for a team that is 12-5 ...
Biggest shoes to fill in the Big East
A year ago at this time, the Big East was dealing with the loss of a plethora of stars, including some of the best players in league history. Guys like Pat White, Donald Brown, Kenny Britt, LeSean McCoy and Scott McKillop seemed difficult, if not impossible, to replace. The league fared just fine in 2009 without those stars, and the good news for 2010 is that many of its top performers will be back. But that's not to say there aren't still some key losses that teams will have to adjust to this spring. Here's a look at the ...
Needed and Good
Well, unless you were a Seton Hall fan. It sure didn’t help the Hall’s chances that one of the few players on the team that plays defense like he actually enjoys it — Keon “wrong-way on the highway” Lawrence was still back in New Jersey (very vague reasons that SHU Coach Gonzo swears are minor and personal). What amazes me about this Seton Hall season is that it isn’t going anywhere near their two expected scripts. The first was that they would rip themselves apart with the assembled transfers and all the baggage brought with them. At the very least it ...
Pitt, Syracuse add to Hall of Fame rosters
The newest induction class into the Pro Football Hall of Fame was unveiled over the weekend , and two Big East schools will be sending more players to Canton.
Two former Pittsburgh greats, offensive lineman Russ Grimm and defensive end Rickey Jackson, were voted in to give the Panthers six professional Hall of Famers. The others are Tony Dorsett, Mike Ditka, Dan Marino and Joe Schmidt.
Remarkably, Grimm, Jackson and Marino were all on the same 1980 Pittsburgh team. Grimm and Jackson were recruited together in the 1977 class. Grimm was the team's starting center and went ...
NPSI DAY THREE RECAP

Moore (6-6 WF/Pittsburgh) led all scorers on the day with 30 points in a 70-69 win over the Canarias Basketball Academy of Spain. Pitt Basketball: Colonials hope winning streak stands against Panthers
Robert Morris owns one of the nation's longest winning streaks in Division I men's basketball. The Colonials have won nine consecutive games to assume control of the Northeast Conference. But when Robert Morris visits Pitt tonight, the Colonials will be looking to put an end to a long losing streak against the No. 22 Panthers.Pitt has never lost to Robert Morris in 27 meetings. What's more is that the Panthers have rarely been challenged by the Colonials, winning the past nine games in the series by an average of almost 24 points per game.Last season, Robert Morris won the NEC and ...
